Do You Wanna Play?
Christmas is coming and it’s the time for parlour games… oh my God am I some sort of Victorian peasant or something…
What I mean is the UK Government have outlawed board games and singing this Christmas so I have invented a new game to keep you amused.
It’s called You Decide and like all good puppies it is not just for Christmas.
As you know we have a new house. This house will become a retreat twice a year for women. Women that are at a crossroads in life (we’ve all been there).
Maybe their kids have grown up and left home and they have the chance to discover who they are (other than a mother).
Perhaps they are recently divorced and need to find out who they are all over again or maybe they are close to retirement and the ‘job’ had defined them for so many years.
Whatever their story we want to find 5 very special women to join us on this retreat – the first one being launched in June 2022.
One Problem, Many Solutions
One problem with this is we need to make the house ‘visitor’ friendly. This means creating a dining space, a workshop space, a yoga and meditation studio, toilets, showers all while maintaining the garden to provide food to feed everyone.
This does not phase me in the slightest. I know we will do it as we always do, but funds and time are definitely against us… and this is where I came up with the idea for the game. Actually that’s not quite true!
The real story is I created a Buy me a Coffee page so anyone that fancied contributing a little, or enjoyed my ramblings enough, could click on the coffee cup and send me a Euro and this still exists. However, whilst titivating this, I accidentally created a membership site…
This is amazing! True, but if you have a membership site it has to have a purpose. Most people do zoom calls with their audience, but I figured nobody would want to ask me anything so that quickly got ruled out.
Then when I’d spent hours and hours and hours debating about toilets (I kid you not) I came to the conclusion that if time was against us, I needed to make these decisions more quickly.
Design Dilemmas – You Decide!
That is how You Decide was born.
Join my Design Dilemmas team and essentially you get to decide how we renovate the house.
This is how it works:
I provide the dilemma, enhanced with images. You vote for what you want to see and I deliver.
This could be anything from materials used, methods, colours, flooring, walls, lighting, ingenious upcycles, even which workshops we run with and which ones we ditch – whatever challenges we come across – we ask you, the audience!
It is as simple as pick, click, tick! Try saying that quickly.
Pick – You pick the solution
Click – You click to vote on your choice
Tick – I tick it off my list and deliver the most popular answer.
What a Bargain! Where Do I Sign?
Or in other words… how much does this membership cost I hear you cry.
Just 3 Euros a month or a discount for the whole year – around the price of a Starbucks Latte.
I am aware that I’m opening myself up to abuse, being told to paint a wall in some luminous yellow or weave a curtain out of straw, but I have to trust that you will do the right thing and just go with the flow!
I’m actually quite excited about running these things past you guys and seeing what evolves.
The first dilemma is there now and I need your help.
Who’s it For?
If you ever fancied yourself as a bit of an interior designer, then this is for you.
If you think you’re good at upcycling old things and repurposing them, then this is for you.
If you reckon you could renovate a house on a budget, then this is for you.
If you just fancy playing with my head and driving me to do crazy stuff, then as much as I hate to say it, this is for you too!
I know this will be fun for all of us if enough people get involved so please, if you can’t afford to join us, here are some things you can do to help that cost nothing, nada, zilch!
